I just finished Dragon Age: Origins and consider it one of the best rpgs i've ever played. I can't afford the $50 for Dragon Age 2 now, so i'm thinking about buying Mass Effect 1.
Here are the questions i have:
1. Is the story good?
2. Is the storytelling as good as DA?
3. Are the characters as well developed?
4. Is the party combat system decent?
5. How good are the rpg elements? (like the dialog choosing)Is Mass Effect 1 as good as Dragon Age: Origins?
Personally, I liked Mass Effect 10x better than Dragon Age: Origins. It was no contest for me.
1. The story is fabulous.
2. I liked the storytelling better in Mass Effect.
3. The characters are good.
4. Party combat is ok (better than DAO).
5. RPG elements are excellent. You can answer questions or deal with issues in various ways.
The biggest difference for me was that Mass Effect was actually exciting. Dragon Age: Origins felt slow and kind of heavy-handed sometimes. It sort of felt like the writers were trying so hard to make something "epic" that they forgot to make it fun. (That's just my opinion, though). Anyway, if you are an RPGer you should give Mass Effect a try. It's a new classic of the genre and one of the best games I've ever played. Definitely worth it.
Dragon Age: Origins feels like a real throwback to the good old days of PC role-playing epics. It also feels like exactly what you expect the makers of Baldur's Gate to come up with as a follow-up to that classic. While that means you could rightfully fault the game for not being especially innovative, it's this adherence to a classic style of gameplay that will ensure that it's welcomed by the legions of nostalgic RPG players that make up this genre's core audience. That said, this is definitely not the game for those frightened of the idea of micromanaging a game to the point where a large portion of it will be spent in a pause screen. Is Mass Effect 1 as good as Dragon Age: Origins?
I love both series and Mass Effect is fantastic. Dragon Age is the best RPG I've ever played also.
1. Yes it is very good, but not as long as Dragon Age
2. Like I said it's good just shorter.
3. Yes , you can get to know the characters, and do side quest for them (like Dragon Age)
4. Yes, in my opinion the combat system is better then Dragon Age
5. The dialog choosing is about them same.
Mass Effect 1 is the best games.
bIs Mass Effect 1 as good as Dragon Age: Origins?
Dragon Age sucks. Mass Effect rocks.
Mass Effect is much better than Dragon Age.
1. Better story. Dragon Age Origins has a very clich茅 storyline and while Mass Effect uses some scifi tropes, there is more than enough originality to compensate.
2. Storytelling is more cinematic. Dialogue choice are presented in a dialogue wheel with paraphrases instead of whole sentences making choice of dialogue quicker, which leads to a more fluent conversation system. The protagonist is voiced.
3. The characters in Dragon Age are very clich茅. The backstories of the characters in Mass Effect are much more interesting.
4. You control only the party leader but you can give commands to the rest of the party.
5. It's an RPG/TPS hybrid so don't expect the deepest of RPG elements. Dialogue is a transparent system. Choices on the top-right of the wheel are paragon (nice) choices, and the bottom-right represents renegade (badass) choices. The middle choice is neutral. The left side of the wheel has persuasion options and 'investigate'. 'Investigate' leads to a new portion of the wheel where you have five choices that let you discuss the topic in more detail without having to worry about morality. The sixth choice is 'return' to go back to the primary dialogue wheel.
There's an inventory. I hear it's quite confusing on Xbox but it's ok on PC. Expect to find lots of duplicate items which you should sell to a vendor. When you level up you distribute skills like in other RPGs.
